How to design a 3D logo in adobe illustrator
1. Create a new document
Step 1: Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document containing the following parameters.
Step 2: Access Preferences =>Guides & Grid and create a grid with the parameters as below:
Step 3: Access View tab and tick the options View =>Show grid and View =>Snap to grid.
2. Create the basic shapes
Step 1: Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to create a 200x200px circle in the middle of the drawing center. Then draw another circle smaller than 100x100px inside the first circle.
Step 2: Next draw another circle size 150x150px. Center the center of the first two shapes and move it twice to the right using the arrow keys.
Draw two rectangles, one 50x50px and one 50x25px, and place these in the center of each ellipse as shown below:
Step 3: Select all objects and use the Shape Builder tool (Shift + M) to combine these objects. Combined with the use of parameters as shown below.
Delete the parts we don’t need.
Step 4: Use the Direct Selection tool (A) to round the corners until a core arches. Remove lines from the 2 objects.
3. Draw, create edges
The next step now we need to do is to draw the edges to add depth to the logo.
Step 1: Disable the grid. Access Preferences =>General. In the frame Keyboard Increment, enter a value of 0.50px. Select the left part of the arch and move to the left by pressing the arrow key 10 times. Then move the object to the back by selecting Object =>Arrange =>Send to back.
Copy (press Ctrl + C Crtl + F) another part of the arch and move right by pressing the arrow key 10 times. Then move the object back. Use the tool Shape Builder (Shift + M) to remove redundancies from the arch.
Step 2: Mark the right part of the arch and move to the right by pressing the arrow key 10 times, then move the object backwards. Fill the object with dark colors to distinguish it from the main design.
4. Add gradients and transparency
To add a 3D effect, we apply a gradient and a transparent layer.
Step 1: Use the Gradient Tool (G) to apply a linear gradient to the left side of the vomg and the back of the logo. Then add another gradient to the edges of the logo.
Step 2: Select the upper part of the logo, copy (Ctrl + C Ctrl + F) and fill with yellow color. Then duplicate the object again and fill it with red.
Use the Direct Selection tool (A) to select the bottom point of the arch. Move this point up by pressing the arrow key once. Select the red and yellow objects, then click Minus Front in Pathfinder tab.
Step 3: Follow the same steps for the same part of the arch, with the edges to create a bevel effect.
Step 4: Fill the edges with bevel effect with transparent gradient as shown below. Apply gradients to all parts according to bevel.
5. Apply the reflections
To make the logo look more realistic, we will apply reflections and lights.
Step 1: Duplicate the upper part 2 times and pour the yellow and red colors respectively.
Move the image over 3 times to the left, press and hold the Shift key. Select 2 images and click Minus Front in Pathfinder tab.
Use the Gradient Tool (G) to apply a white gradient from 50% to 0%.
Step 2: Create a halo at the top and bottom of the logo using the same steps in step 1.
Step 3: Copy the part on the logo. Use the Pen tool (P) to draw a curve that crosses the object.
Select curves and objects. Click here Divide in Pathfinder tab. Use the Ungroup command (Object => Ungroup) and delete the rest. Apply white gradient with 50% opacity to the object.
Step 4: Duplicate the two objects in the previous step and fill the objects with yellow and red respectively. Use the Pen Tool (P) to create the middle anchor point as shown below and move the point up.
Click here Minus Front To create a new bright spot and red white, apply 50% opacity.
Step 5: Follow the same steps to create a reflection on the top and bottom of the logo.
6. Perfecting the logo
Step 1: Select entire logo and group (Ctrl + G), copy the group (Ctrl + F), flip vertically and horizontally (Object => Transform =>Reflect). Arrange 2 groups as shown below and group all objects.
Step 2: Use the Rectangle tool (M) to create the background. Draw a rectangle 800x600px and fill it with dark blue color. Move the rectangle back and align the logo to the center.
