If you are new to Autocad, in the article below Taimienphi.vn will introduce you Geometric drawing command in Autocad as well as the most basic Autocad keyboard shortcuts.

1. The command to draw geometry in Autocad

+, Command L

This command is used to create simple lines in Autocad drawings.

+, Command C

This command is used to draw circles in Autocad.

+, PL order

This command can be used to create a Polyline in Autocad drawings.

+, REC

This command is used to draw a rectangle in AutoCAD.

+, POL

The POL command is used to create a minimum 3-sided polygon and a maximum of 1024 faces.

+, ARC

As its name implies, the ARC command is used to create an arc in Autocad.

+, ELLIPSE

The ELLIPSE command in Autocad is used to create ellipses with major and auxiliary axes.

+, REG

This command is used to create geometry in Autocad.

+, CO

The CO command is used to copy objects in Autocad.

+, ARRAY

Use this command to create a rectangle or path array.

+, TR

This command is used to cut the graphics.

+, OP

By using this command, we can open the options window, which contains most of the Autocad settings.

lesson 5 geometric shapes in autocad 4

+, SC

This command is used to change the size of an object.

+, B

The B command is used to create a block, the properties of the block are determined through the block definition window.

+, I

This command is used to insert an existing block or drawing as a block in Autocad.

+, ST

Use this command to open the text style window, which contains the properties of the default AutoCAD text style.

+, X

The X command is used to subdivide objects such as Polylines into simple lines, an array or blocks into simple geometry, etc.

+, F

This command is used to add rounded corners to geometric edges, these inner corners are called fillets.

+, CHA

The CHA command is used to add slanted edges to corners, which are called chamferes.

+, LA

This command is used to open the palette management properties panel – a tool to create and manage layers (layers) in Autocad drawings.

2. Basic Autocad keyboard shortcuts

By using keyboard shortcuts to activate some common actions or commands Autocad. In the next section below, Taimienphi.vn will introduce you to some of the most basic Autocad keyboard shortcuts.

+, Ctrl + N

Use this shortcut to open a new drawing in the Autocad tab.

+, Ctrl + S

Use this shortcut to save the drawing file.

+, Ctrl + Shift + S

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + S to save the drawing as a new file, or in other words this is a shortcut for the Save As command.

+, Ctrl + 0

This shortcut is used to clear the screen, showing only the drawing area and hiding the tabs and palette. Press this shortcut to reset the default Autocad interface.

+, Ctrl + 1

Select the object and press Ctrl + 1 to open the palette, which displays the object’s properties. We can also use this palette to modify most properties of an object.

Another way to open this property sheet is by using the PR command.

+, Ctrl + 2

Use this shortcut to open the central palette containing Autocad blocks, which can be used directly in drawings.

+, Ctrl + 9

This shortcut is used to toggle the visibility of the command line. Suppose for some reason your command line is hidden from the drawing area, just use this shortcut to redisplay the command.

+, Ctrl + C

Select the objects from the drawing, then press Ctrl + C to copy the objects to the clipboard.

+, Ctrl + V

Use this shortcut to paste the copied object into the drawing and retain the original properties.

+, Ctrl + Shift + V

To paste the copied objects as a block, we can use this shortcut. We can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + V to create blocks quickly without performing the steps in the block creation window.

+, Ctrl + Z

Use this shortcut to undo the last action in an Autocad drawing. You can use this shortcut repeatedly to undo multiple operations.

+, Ctrl + Y

Use this shortcut to redo the last undo operation you have performed.

+, Ctrl + Tab

This shortcut is used to browse all the tabs in Autocad drawings.

3. Turn off the Status Bar in Autocad

+, F7 key

Use the F7 key to toggle the Status Bar visibility in your drawing area.

+, F9 key

Toggle Snap mode, when Snap mode is enabled, the Autocad cursor will jump to specific points in the drawing area specified in Snap mode.

+, DYNMODE

The default value of this system variable is set to -3, to activate Dynamic Input we must change the system variable to 3. Dynamic Input allows adding dynamic information on the cursor tool.

+, F8 key

Toggle Ortho Mode on. When Ortho Mode is enabled, you can create lines horizontally or vertically.

+, F10 key

Toggle Polar Tracking. If Polar Tracking is enabled, you can create inclines in any angle defined in the Polar Tracking tab.

+, ISODRAFT

By converting ISODRAFT, you can enable Isometric in Autocad. You can choose Isoplane Left, Isoplane Top and Isoplane Right. Also if you want you can also switch between different isoplane using the F5 keyboard shortcut. The default value of the ISODRAFT option is orthographic.

+, F11 key

Toggle Object snap tracking. Using this option you can track geometric capture points such as center, midpoint, endpoint, etc. and create geometry with their reference.

+, F3 key

The F3 key is used to enable / disable the Object Snap option. If Object Snap is enabled, you can move the mouse pointer to an exact number of points in the geometry. This option allows you to create accurate Autocad drawings.
